TOMMY 50th Anniversary

Based on The Who's classic rock opera of the same name, this phantasmagoria of sights and sounds from British provocateur Ken Russell is a wild, oddly moving ride and filled to the brim with cameos from the likes of Jack Nicholson, Eric Clapton, Tina Turner, and Elton John, along with The Who themselves. The highlight of this film, though, is Ann-Margret's Oscar-nominated performance. She dives into this material like most actors do with Shakespeare, giving a performance of depth, devotion, and gut-wrenching emotion as the titular character’s mother. Also starring frequent Russell collaborator Oliver Reed and Roger Daltrey himself, TOMMY proved that The Who and Ken Russell were a match made in heaven.

Ann-Margret is an actor and singer who has enjoyed a seven-decade career. On film, she is best known for her Oscar-nominated performances in CARNAL KNOWLEDGE and TOMMY and for her work in BYE BYE BIRDIE. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and won a Primetime Emmy for her work in LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT (with four other Emmy nominations).
