Coming off of the brilliantly unusual FRANK, Lenny Abrahamson brought the same off-kilter sensibility and huge heart to ROOM which follows a mother and her young son who are held captive in a small room. ROOM's ingenuity lies largely in Abrahamson's ability to tell much of his story from the perspective of a young child, and in doing so, he elicits a vivid performance out of Jacob Tremblay who matches the work of his co-star, Brie Larson, who won an Academy Award for her performance. Adapted by Emma Donoghue from her own novel, ROOM is a rewarding, ultimately uplifting drama executed with an admirable lack of sentimentality.
Lenny Abrahamson is a filmmaker best known for ROOM, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Director, as well as the acclaimed FRANK, WHAT RICHARD DID, GARAGE, and ADAM& PAUL. He also directed many episodes of the TV series NORMAL PEOPLE for which he received an Emmy nomination.
